The signed agreement concerning operation and development of ALMA enables Korea to participate in the project.
ALMA or the Atacama Large Millimetre/sub-millimetre Array is a set of large radio telescopes in the Atacama desert in northern Chile that works as an interferometer, where US, Canada, Chile and East Asia collaborate, enabling the work of the currently most expensive ground-based telescope in operation.
Observations of electromagnetic waves in the millimetre- and submillimetre range enable scientists find out more about the formation of planets and stars.
