European Space Agency's satellite GOCE has plunged down to Earth's atmosphere after having used up all of it's fuel. Most of it disintegrated in the atmosphere on November 11, 2013 and headed down over the South Atlantic Ocean east of Tierra del Fuego.

GOCE (Gravity Field and Steady-State Ocean Circulation Explorer) was a satellite for mapping the Earth's gravity field. It was launched in March 2009. Re-entering the Earth's atmosphere is one of the ways in which to lessen the amount of space debris after a satellite or space craft has finished it's necessary mission, as because of the atmosphere's friction it will heat up and butn upon re-entry.
